What happens if you don't respond to the jury duty questionnaire in KS? ›

Failure to answer questions shall be punishable with contempt of court. (K.S.A. 43-161). Regardless of your personal situation, all juror questionnaires must be completed and returned for processing.

How do I request to be excused from jury service? Generally, to be excused from jury service for other than health reasons, you must appear in person and speak to the Judge on the date you are summoned. To be excused for health reasons, a written statement from your physician is required.

In the Certificate of Service area, put in the address for the Plaintiff or Plaintiff's attorney that is listed on the Petition. You are required to mail a copy of your Answer to that address along with filing a copy of the Answer with the Clerk of the District Court.

Pursuant to K.S.A. 43-165, any person who is duly summoned to appear as a juror and who fails to appear without a sufficient excuse shall be subject to a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per day for each unexcused absence.

Everyone is inconvenienced to some degree by jury service, but for the system to work, people from all walks of life must be willing to serve. Those who refuse to complete the juror questionnaire or to appear when called to serve are subject to the imposition of fines and jail time.

As per MCA 3-15-405, failure to respond to your notice will result in your name being certified to the Sheriff, who shall serve the notice personally on you. FAILURE TO RETURN YOUR COMPLETED QUESTIONNAIRE WILL NOT REMOVE YOU FROM JURY SERVICE.
